Separated At Cell Phone

My sister lives in San Francisco and saw a great help wanted sign it read "Help Wanted - must be able to work full shift without cell phone". We laughed at how much we use our cell phones and can't be separated for too long. It's interesting how times have changed!

Got Laundry?

Do you have piles and piles of laundry that you just can’t catch up on? Save some time by bagging up your clothes and head to the local laundry mat. They have tons of washers and dryers so you can finish up the job in an hour. They have carts that make it easy to transfer from washers to dryers and great big tables for folding.
So grab your bags of laundry, quarters, soap and a good book and you are on your way.
If you have some oversized items like comforters grab those too.
If you know you still don’t have time to finish up those never ending piles of laundry, drop them off at a dry cleaners that offers wash and fold service. Some cleaners will even pick up. Can’t get better than that!

Boil Water And Get Things Done

This morning I walked into the kitchen and turned on the tea pot for my morning cup of tea. There I saw a sink full of dishes and everything leftover from the weekend. Instead of just standing around and waiting for the water to boil I decided to tackle that pile of dishes. I knew it wouldn’t take long so I dove in and in no time the whistle blew and I had already unloaded the dish washer. I through a tea bag into my cup and brewed for 5 minutes. In that time I quickly re-loaded the dishwasher, cleared off the counters, and gave them a clean sweep. I was immediately ready for my morning with a hot cup of tea and admiring my clean kitchen.
This only took a few minutes and I used my downtime to get things done. Its easier to do quick tasks when you know you only have a few minutes. Next time you are standing around waiting, make use of those extra minutes and get things done by organizing a drawer or clean out a bag. And as always keep it simple.

Make “Purging” A Way Of Life

A basic rule in organizing a closet, cabinet or drawer is purging unused items. In order to gain space we do need to let go of some of the items we no longer need our use. But not everyone has time to purge and reorganize their spaces.
A quick tip purging items in your closet is keep a small bag in your closet for items that you are sure you will no longer wear. Hang a shopping bag on a hanger or place a basket on the floor. Wherever you have an item in your hands that you know you will never wear put it in the bag or basket instead of throwing it back in the drawer, floor or laundry. Get rid of it once and for all. As soon as the bag is full donate it!

An Organized Invention

One of my clients did his homework over the weekend and gave ME at tip! I love it! He was working on his closet by himself and figured a way to keep the liner and overcoat on the same hanger without the liner falling off. It was a problem for him because every time he took his coat off the hanger the liner fell off onto the floor. So, he went into his wife’s office and was able to find a couple of binder clips for his invention. We recently organized all of her supplies into bins so he was able to find the supplies, another exiting moment for me.
He folded the liner over the rod on the hanger and attached two binder clips to the liner. Now he hangs up the overcoat and liner together in harmony and no more falling on the floor. Wow, another organizing problem solved!

The Loss Of A Beloved Gadget

Saying goodbye is not easy. Today I had to say goodbye to one of my favorite gadgets because it was broken beyond repair and it was time to go. It was my rotating battery powered nail file and can't be replaced.
So before I tossed it in the garbage I took a moment to remember the good times we had together. I remember the first time I used and it and was with me through high school, college, until today. It had its own case and several attachments and it gave the best manicure ever! Over the years I lost the attachments, broke one of the stones and tossed the case. It was pretty worn out but it worked! I will miss it.

Making Time to Stay Organized

As a Professional Organizer I often hear the comment "I bet you are SO organized", "I bet your home or office is just perfect"! My answer to this is "yes, it's organized and works for me and my lifestyle but it does take a lot of work to keep it that way".
We all get busy, so in order to get and stay organized we need to set aside time each day to do the important tasks in order to stay on track. And whenever possible look ahead to see if their is a way to prepare yourself for the day, next task, or activity.

Is your wrist vibrating?

I love gadgets especially the ones that are useful and solve a problem. Check out this new bluetooth receiver and cellphone vibrating gadget. Its made out of rubber and its worn like a watch. It vibrates when your cell phone rings so that you never miss a call. The name of this fun gadget is BlueQ and cost $40. I would use this when I can't hear my phone ring.
If you don't like the looks of this gadget you can design and print out sticky strips to cover the bands.
