Don't Organize It...Return It!

We constantly upgrade our electronics but upgrades can leave us with tons of extra equipment. Most of the time our new piece of equipment is smaller, takes up less space and doesn't require all the extra parts and accessories you have stored away. Save yourself the headache of trying to keep old equipment organized and just send back to the manufacturer. Here are a few companies that offer a "Take Back" program. Some charge a fee for any brand and some are free when you buy new. Also check out your local electronics stores for Take Back events. And be sure to check out the companies recycle program at time of purchase.

Magazine Organizing Project

Are you holding on to months or even years of old magazines?  They take up a lot of space and if you have current subscriptions the amount will continue to multiply!   Here's a project you can do on a rainy day or even in front of the TV.  Go through your magazines and pull the articles you want to read.  Organize them  by category and store in folders.  Recycle the rest of the magazine.  Now you will have more space and you have stacks of articles you can take with you to read anytime.

Measuring Double Duty

Do you have a favorite "GO-To" tool or gadget in the kitchen? For whatever reason it just does the job with ease. One of may favorite tools is the double measuring cup. I can measure both dry ingredients and liquids using the same cup. It just works for me and I love that I only have to wash one cup. I keep my measuring tools organized with this cup to the front of the cabinet and easily accessible.

Organize Yourself Out Of Winter!

It has been a long cold winter. Tearing off the February page of the calender was pure joy! Now that we are moving into March it got me thinking about Spring and Summer. It's right around the corner and time to start making room for the new seasons and everything that goes along with them. Here's an organizing task that will help you get a head start. Take a look in your cabinets, closets and drawers to see what winter gear you can replace with spring and summer. Is there space to add lighter jackets and rain gear in your entry closet? You wont need those heavy winter boots and snow removal supplies for long. It's a good time to think about their exit strategy. Will you be adding beach towels to your linen closet? Think about packing up the flannel sheets and extra wool blankets. Is your kitchen the hub of outdoor entertaining and barbecuing? Put away the hearty winter cooking supplies and holiday entertaining to make room for the grilling tools and outdoor dishes.

WANTED: Less Stuff, More Space

It starts out as a cluttered closet, a overstuffed drawer or a garage used as a storage space. One day you decide its time to get organized. If you decide to get rid of the things you no longer need but put aside the "maybe's", how much time are you willing to spend holding to these things? A day, week, month, years or until have you completely forgotten about them? If you decided to store those items be sure to give yourself a time frame for letting go. Add a label to the box that says "get rid of by xx date." If you havent needed it since you moved it or even thought about it, it's a good sign you made the right decision to let it go.
